Clean-Energy Investment in Asia Exceeds Americas for First Year

Clean-energy investment in Asia rose during the global recession in 2009, surpassing the Americas for the first time as China installed wind turbines and solar panels to replace coal-burning power plants.

Energy systems using the sun, wind and biofuels in the Asia-Pacific region attracted $37.3 billion, up 25 percent from 2008, data from Bloomberg New Energy Finance show. (more…)

Scotland’s Renewable Energy Generation On The Rise

Scotland continues to generate more renewable energy than ever before.

Statistics published today show that in 2008, renewables could meet 22 per cent of Scottish electricity needs.

Other findings show that in 2008:

  • Electricity generated in Scotland increased by four per cent to 49,911 gigawatt hours (GWh)
  • 18 per cent of electricity was exported (9,000 GWh)
  • Renewables met 22 per cent of Scottish electricity demand (more…)
